Priorities
Literacy& Math Proficiency
My top priority will be maximizing Literacy and Math proficiency. By collaborating with parents and teachers on the implementation of evidence based instructional practices, I am confident that Wyoming’s students will have the foundational skills they need to chase their American dreams.
Safe and Orderly Classrooms
Wyoming’s teachers, parents and students deserve respectful, safe and distraction-free classrooms. As Superintendent, I will be committed to maintaining learning-focused classrooms.
Future Focused State Department of Education
Wyoming must prepare for the shifting responsibilities as the U.S. Department of Education downsizes or is eliminated. As Superintendent, I will use my background and collaborate with teachers, administrators and school boards to ensure the Wyoming Department of Education is ready to support local districts through this transition.
Modernize Our System of Standards, Assessment & Accountability
As Superintendent, I will prioritize the modernization of our standards and assessment system in a way that respects the need for a meaningful accountability framework. Our current system is expensive, overly time consuming and inefficient. Parents and teachers deserve reliable data that informs instruction, in real time.
Re-Imagine American Public Education
Innovation is at home in Wyoming and we have an opportunity to show America how to re-imagine public education. Many of Wyoming’s schools are already implementing common sense apprenticeship programs, expanding student centered learning models, and diversifying educational opportunities for students. As Superintendent, I will champion innovation by removing barriers and empowering parents and educators.
Proven Leadership Experience
Teacher, Principal, Improvement Administrator, Mayor & Attorney.
Diverse background in traditional public schools, charter schools and online programs in rural, inner-city, suburban and Native American communities.
